Savona Eyes Etihad Switch as City Target Right-Back Reinforcement
With the January addition of a new centre-back already bolstering their defensive core, Manchester City are now turning their attention to fullbacks — and Juventus starlet Nicolò Savona is firmly in their sights.
With the January addition of a new centre-back already bolstering their defensive core, Manchester City are now turning their attention to fullbacks — and Juventus starlet Nicolò Savona is firmly in their sights.
Kyle Walker’s surprise loan move to AC Milan in January, which includes a purchase option, has left Pep Guardiola relying heavily on Rico Lewis as his only recognised right-back. As the summer window approaches, the club is preparing to strengthen out wide — and Savona has emerged as a serious contender.
According to Foot Mercato, the 22-year-old Italian defender has already reached a verbal agreement with City. Talks with his representatives are ongoing as the club looks to finalise personal terms ahead of a potential move.
Savona, a standout graduate of Juventus’ academy, has enjoyed a breakout season with 36 first-team appearances and an international debut for Italy last November. Despite being under contract until 2029, reports suggest he’s keen to join City and take the next step in his career under Guardiola’s guidance.
However, the transfer isn’t a done deal just yet. There’s been no official approach to Juventus so far, and City are still exploring other options.
Top of the wishlist remains Wesley of Flamengo, although talks have stalled. Tino Livramento of Newcastle is also under consideration as a second choice. Should deals for either fall through, Savona could quickly move to the top of City’s list.
