Eddie on his way?
Galatasaray Make Ederson Play as City Eye Goalkeeping Shake-Up
Galatasaray have launched a surprise bid to prise Ederson, with reports claiming the Turkish champions have tabled an offer of just €3 million for the Brazilian goalkeeper.
The low fee reflects the fact Ederson has only a year left on his deal. Despite his public commitment to City earlier this summer, there’s a sense inside the club that now may be the time to move him on—rather than lose him for nothing in 2026.
Talks are ongoing behind the scenes about possible successors. Diogo Costa of Porto is one name firmly on the table. Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen is also under consideration.
According to Maisfutebol, City are preparing a €60 million bid—bonuses included—for Costa. They will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who are also tracking the Portuguese keeper.
Ederson has lifted six league titles since arriving at City from Benfica in 2017. In June, he insisted he had no intention of leaving. “My head is here,” he said. “I want to keep pushing in the Premier League and go for the Champions League again.”
But City are clearly preparing for a changing of the guard in goal.
Elsewhere, there could be a homecoming for James Trafford. The club are in talks with Burnley about reactivating a £40 million buy-back clause for the 22-year-old, who left the Etihad last summer. Trafford spent eight years at City before moving to Turf Moor for £19 million.
He impressed last season with 29 clean sheets as Burnley returned to the Premier League under Scott Parker, and earned a call-up to the England squad. Trafford also played a key role in England’s Under-21 Euros win in 2023.
The decision now rests on whether the numbers make sense—for City and Trafford alike. Either way, it’s becoming clear the goalkeeper department at the Etihad is heading for a significant overhaul.
