As City gear up for a massive FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest, the squad will have to navigate the challenge without several first-team regulars. With the season reaching its climax and silverware still up for grabs, Pep Guardiola’s side are walking a tightrope when it comes to squad fitness.
Top of the injury list is Ederson, who picked up a knock in the recent win over Crystal Palace and had to be substituted. The Brazilian remains a major doubt for the Forest match. Speaking ahead of the Everton game, Pep didn’t sound hopeful:
“He is not available for tomorrow. I don’t know [longer term]. But for that game he is not ready.”
Nathan Ake also faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after being withdrawn at half-time during the Plymouth game. It’s the latest in a frustrating run of injuries for the Dutchman this season. Guardiola confirmed Ake underwent surgery on a foot issue and will miss the next couple of months:
“Ten to eleven weeks, they said. When it is surgery, it is pretty serious and something wrong happened. He struggled a lot this season with the problems in his feet and it happened.”
