Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, has been officially named the Premier League 2 Player of the Season for the outstanding 2024-25 campaign.
The 19-year-old Simpson-Pusey continues the proud tradition of defensive excellence nurtured within the walls of the CFA. Since Pep Guardiola's arrival in 2016, the academy has consistently churned out top-quality players who have gone on to grace the first team, and Simpson-Pusey looks to be the next in line.
This season has already seen the Manchester-born youngster make a significant impact on Guardiola's squad. Amidst an early-season injury crisis in the heart of our defence, Simpson-Pusey stepped up admirably, making a total of eight senior appearances. This included two appearances each in the fiercely competitive Premier League and the prestigious UEFA Champions League, alongside outings in both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. In a season where every bit of help has been crucial, our young guns have truly delivered!
Speaking to the club's official website, a delighted Simpson-Pusey said, "To receive this award in such a competitive league with lots of amazing talent is a huge honour for me."
He also credited his teammates and coaches, stating, "This squad is a great team to be a part of as we all push each other to be the best we can be every day, and I think we’ve seen that with the new records we’ve hit this season, even more so following a difficult season last year. But this also wouldn’t have been possible without those around me, so I’d also like to say thank you to Ben (Wilkinson), Craig (Mudd), all the coaching staff and my team-mates too.”
This individual accolade comes as Manchester City's U-21s celebrated finishing top of Premier League 2, with Simpson-Pusey playing a pivotal role in their success. Adding to the academy's impressive season, fellow young Blue Emilio Lawrence was also shortlisted for the Player of the Season award, highlighting the incredible talent brewing within our youth ranks.
