Pep Guardiola has offered a promising update on Rodri’s recovery, as City fans begin to dream of seeing the Ballon d’Or winner back on the pitch before the end of the season.
Rodri has been sidelined for most of the campaign after picking up a serious knee injury in the early-season 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Etihad. It was a huge blow at the time, with the Spanish midfield general being such a vital cog in City’s setup.
Since then, Rodri has still been a regular presence around the squad—cheering on his teammates, lifting the Ballon d’Or, and now, getting back involved in training sessions at the CFA.
Speaking this week, Pep Guardiola gave fans a sliver of hope that Rodri could return to action in time for a potential FA Cup final appearance. Asked directly about the possibility, Pep said:
“I don’t know. Every training session he’s doing with us, so he’s doing really well, I would say.
But yeah, I don’t know, to be honest I don’t know. Rodri wants [to play], but the doctors are going to tell me, ‘Pep, you have green lights to give him some minutes’, or so on. I will rely on the doctors in that case.”
With City chasing silverware on multiple fronts, the idea of having Rodri back pulling the strings in midfield for a big Wembley occasion is definitely one to get excited about.
